The 7 O’Clock Rule
The line between family and business gets a bit blurry when your company’s organization chart could double as a family tree. Tommy Blanchard, the company’s third president, knew this well from the years he worked for his father, Tom Blanchard, Sr. The dining room can very easily turn into a satellite board room. So when Tommy’s children, Tom III and Carey, began working for Blanchard and Calhoun, he established the Seven O’Clock Rule: no talking about business after the clock strikes 7pm. Like his father before him, Tommy expected (and still does!) a lot from his kids: commit unequivocally to the company, advocate relentlessly for your team and your customers, and be present for your family. So that good idea that pops into your head while watching reruns of The Office? Well, that will keep until morning. #workhard #playhard
