A Commitment Carved in Stone

When Thomas M. Blanchard, Sr., our company’s second president, passed away in 2006, a quote from Walden by poet and philosopher Henry David Thoreau was chiseled into his headstone:
“There is never an instant’s truce between virtue and vice. Goodness is the only investment that never fails.”
In life and in his leadership of our company, Mr. Tom acted with kindness, strength, and integrity. Negative acts were debt. Positive ones were investments. His commitment to doing the right thing is something that each succeeding generation of leadership strives to emulate with family and friends and with colleagues, clients, and customers. Because a little bit of good goes a long way.
